Although Maureen was unable to attend Peter's funeral she did not feel that she could let it pass without a floral contribution.

"My darling as you make your final journey you will never be out of our thoughts, you will live in my heart forever with fondness of all the great time we spent together and the memories we cherish R.I.P. my darling Peter".

Dear friends of the South Essex Centre there are not enough words to thank you all for the wonderful tributes to my Peter today. They have been overwhelming.  Peter would have been very proud to have read them all.

My special thanks goes to Tony for the wonderful slideshow of part of Peters life along with the tribute music which was the first song we danced to sixty years ago. I wish you could have all been with me today to say a fond farewell but I know you were all there in Spirit.

Thank you all again from the bottom of my heart.

Love Maureen and Family

All Motorhome owners can sorn their road tax, from the date that lock down began. Please see page 79 of the club magazine in the May issue.

Maureen has requested that people wishing to donate in memory of Peter, give to Rawreth Court, the home that cared for him over the past year.

Please send cheques, made payable to Rawreth Court, Essex Partnership Charity Fund University Trust, to:

Mrs Maureen Frier, 58 Parklands, Rochford SS4 1SH

Thank you

Jeannette has been asked by many friends, that because they were unable to attend Phil's funeral, they would like to make a donation to a charity of her choice. Whilst Phil believed in giving to charities, especially Cancer Research, he liked also to give to the people close to the ground if you can understand. Whilst he was in the renal ward at Basildon Hospital he asked the staff if there was any gift he could buy to ease their everyday lives. The response was a request for a Dyson tower fan for their rest room. Unfortunately it arrived after Phil came home and during the lockdown. As soon as it is possible, Jeannette will present it to them. It is with this in mind that she would like to purchase a gift also for the carers from St Lukes Hospice at Home and also the carers from the Marie Curie centre, who looked after him with such care and kindness. So if you are happy to contribute to this please make a donation and the purchases of gifts will be made as soon as possible in Phil's memory, many thanks in advance and thank you to those who have already donated.

Peters funeral will be on Wednesday morning 6th May 2020.

Not the send off he deserves but the situation rules this.

After this is all over we will celebrate his life with a send off He deserves.

Sleep tight my darling, will love you always.

Maureen and family

Its with Great sadness i have to report the passing away of my father, Douglas (Doug) Volke. For those of you that remember my mother and father, they used to have a Carousel folding caravan and used to regularly ralliie many years ago. One of the few if not first folding vans in the centre. We Will miss you Dad.

Steve and Irene Volke

When Phil was unwell, I promised that I would do all I could to help him.

I have now taken over as Secretary and hope that I can try to be as efficient as he was.

Take care and stay safe.

Sue Maran

Hi Everyone,

Don’t know if you are all aware but on the Caravan and Motorhome Club Facebook page they run a quiz at 7 pm on a Wednesday evening which lasts about an hour.  We have done it for the last couple of weeks and it is entertaining so why not have a go.

The April draw of the 100 Club took place at the 22nd April Skype Committee Meeting.

The winners were:

1st number was 70 and the owner will receive a cheque for £15

2nd number was 81 and the owner will receive a cheque for £10

3rd number was 7 and the owner will receive a cheque for £5

Congratulations to them all.

The next draw will take place on the 19th May 2020 at the Skype Committee Meeting.

It is with great sadness that we have to tell you that Gordon Butcher (Sue Wright’s Dad) passed away on Sunday 5th April.

Gordon along with wife Shelia rallied with South Essex in the 70’s ,80’s & 90’s.  They ran & assisted on many rallies in the 70’s and early 80’s. Then following a move to Lincolnshire, Gordon & Shelia continued to rally with South Essex but mainly Holiday Rallies.

To add to our sadness, we also have to tell you that Beryl Wright (Ian Wright’s Mum) passed Iaway on Thursday 2nd April.

Beryl also rallied with South Essex from the mid 70’s until Ian’s Dad, Alan, died in 1985.

Ian and Sue Wright

I would just like to say Thank You again to Janice & Clint, Marion & David and Rosemary & Tony for making this weekend bright in these dark days.

I would also like to take this opportunity to speak about Phil - he would always say to me “I will speak to you as the secretary of the centre or as a friend”. We will start as a secretary - a few weeks ago, he indicated to me, that he would like to be the best secretary he possibly could, I believe he was. This was confirmed recently when I spoke to Rebecca from East Grinsted who said to me that in her opinion, Phil is one of the best secretary’s within the whole club. This is something to be proud of!
As a friend- I would always refer to him as stupid boy. I have been in his and Jeannette’s company on many occasions and have always found him great company and considered him a great friend.

We later received sad news about Peter. My memories of Peter will always be of a rally that Penny & I ran at Dymchurch - he loved the miniature railway. On a ramble he explained the pumps at Dymchurch that carried fuel across the channel and all the way to Germany during the D-Day landings to me. I have had many an interesting conversation with Peter and he will be greatly missed.

Mine and Penny’s thoughts are with Jeannette and Maureen at this tricky time.

In these hard times, please continue to visit the Facebook page - Sue & Dave will be organising something special for Easter.

Keep Safe, Will & Penny x

It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that I have to tell you all that I lost my Peter tonight at 5-20 pm.

I first lost him on February 2nd 2019 to the illness dementia and everyone has been so kind to me over the last fourteen months. I thank you all for your kindness, friendship and love shown to me from south essex members, without you all I wouldn’t have coped.

All stay safe, Peter would have sent his love as well

Love Maureen

It is with great sadness I have to tell you that Phil passed away peacefully in his sleep at home yesterday. Its hard to believe that just 6 months ago we were looking forward to maybe 2/3 years free of chemo, sadly it wasn't to be. He always stayed positive as many of you know, always looking forward to the next rally. From the bottom of my heart I thank you all for all the kindness, friendship and love you have shown to both of us over the last 3 years. You all know how much he loved the South Essex Centre. So as Phil would say to you all 'Safe Journeys'.

Love Jeannette

Unfortunately the Easter rally was cancelled, which gave us a problem. We had already bought 90 Easter eggs (a bargain at half price) but what were we going to do with all of them, even I couldn’t eat them all. So we came up with the idea of donating them to Little Havens (a children’s hospice in Daws Heath).

Please see the picture of Will, Paul and I (Penny took the photo) outside Little Havens with all the eggs. They were so appreciative and it made the situation a little easier to know that the children had benefitted.

A massive thank you to all the members that had booked onto our Easter rally and donated their eggs.

Happy Easter to everyone and we have decided to give the rally another chance next year as we had our programme arranged.

Take care and stay safe.

Sue, Paul, Will & Penny

We have been notified by the Caravan and Motorhome Club that all rallies and events have been cancelled until after the 30th June 2020.

The Indian Charity Meal is also cancelled.

On behalf of Will and the Committee I would like to wish you all well and safe during this very unsettled time and look forward to when we can all meet up again on the rally field.

Best wishes and stay safe

Jean (webmaster)

After speaking to members and Committee,  I made the decision last night to cancel all South Essex Rallies until the end of May at which time we will review the situation.  Penny and I wish all our members good health and stay safe at this difficult time.

Will Thursby

Dear Member

Following recent Government advice regarding the coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak, we’re really sorry to confirm the National, at Belvoir Castle, will not be going ahead this year.

This decision has been taken following the Government’s announcement to implement increased social distancing, avoid large crowds gathering and to ensure we don’t put further strain on the emergency services.

We know the National is held dear by Club members, volunteers and staff alike, but the safety and wellbeing of our members, volunteers and staff is of paramount importance, so I’m sure you will support this announcement.

We would ask that you don’t call us while we are working through the process of managing the cancellation of the event, we will begin issuing full refunds as soon as possible.  Please bear with us, this may take up to 28 days to complete.

This decision has not been taken lightly, we appreciate your support and understanding during these difficult times.

With best wishes

Nick Lomas, Director General

Will Thursby (Chairman) has asked me to announce that all rallies are cancelled up until the The CAMC National Rally which is the end of May.

He will be giving a further update later today.

Hi Folks.

As Rally Secretary for this year, I am looking at new venues from the information gained from talking to club members. So many of you have done so much in the past, and we are all eternally grateful for that commitment, but we need more help...….. I said at the "Thank You" marshals forum, that my concerns are now for the present and the future, as without rally marshals, there will be no rallies. With no rallies there would be no centre in South Essex.

I have two possible rallies that I am requesting marshals for currently in 2021 before I book them. One of these is a Scottish holiday rally at a beautiful 4* club site on the West Coast, overlooking the Inner Hebrides. We had an incredible rally there several years ago. The other is the possibility of booking an old venue of ours, with a new theme at Walton on Thames...Apps Court Farm. This rally would be on the river bank of the Thames, with beautiful walks and cycle tracks, only 4 miles from Hampton Court. The proposed date for this one links in with a special race meeting at Sandown Park racecourse.

BEFORE I BOOK THESE I MUST HAVE CONFIRMED RALLY MARSHALS. Anyone interested in these , or proposing other new venues please contact me.

Rally Secretary

Could all marshals please send in your equipment order forms to Geoff Appleton at least 6 weeks before your rally. All relevant information and request form is in your paperwork.

On returning this equipment could you advise Geoff of any missing or damaged articles.

Thanks for your co-operation.

If you have any club news or rally updates that you think should be included on this website, please email the Webmaster
