Here we are, the culmination of my first year as Rally Secretary. As I was told at the outset, this is a challenging, but rewarding commitment. I can truly say that I have enjoyed this role to date, and hope that as members you will enjoy the output from these efforts; your 2018 Rally Programme.
I must say, it is becoming ever more difficult to find winter venues, as many schools embark upon building extensions on areas which we have used to park our units. We also need to take account of the falling number of active members we have in the centre, and the burden put on the relatively few members that put themselves forward to organise and run rallies on behalf of us all. Having said that I am pleased to be able to present to you, what I feel is a programme which gives a good variety of rallies for you to choose from. There are UK Holiday rallies, Overseas Holiday rallies, and a range of weekend rallies. We have our favourite sites from years gone by, and also a few new venues. I have tried to include a few rallies where pre-existing activities or attractions are close by, such as Hatton Adventure World, Island Walk & Talk and Billericay Christmas Market. There are invites from other centres, as well as a joint venture with the South West Scotland Centre. We have even planned a trip on a paddle steamer, up to London, from a rally.
We are also trying to arrange that Christmas‘ and the New Year’ are held in the same venue, with the opportunity for ralliers to stay on site between the two should they choose to do so. It is also considered that this could give the opportunity for those marshals working hard over Christmas, the chance to stay end enjoy New Year with the centre, whilst the new team of marshals take over. Also members travelling to or from other Christmas/New year rallies would be able to choose which day they depart or arrive.
I have already said that I am conscious of the workload taken on by our existing pool of rally marshals, but I am encouraged to see a few members new to marshalling, agree to take on, or assist in running rallies. Indeed I would like to offer my gratitude to all those that have volunteered to run the rallies included in this book, and in many cases, for helping me to organise the venues, dates, and arrangements.
I would like to take this opportunity to also thank, on your behalf, members of the committee who work tirelessly, and have helped me a great deal in putting this programme and book together. In particular I would like to mention my predecessor Phil Goldspink who has always been there to offer help and support in my first year, much of which I am not ashamed to admit, I have gladly taken. Finally, as always, my biggest vote of thanks goes to my wife Marion for all of the hard work she has put into helping me achieve the delivery of this book, not to mention the never ending support, understanding and tolerance.
We hope you enjoy this programme, continue to support YOUR centre, and have a safe year of rallying with the Caravan and Motorhome Club.
